Five Signs to Know Your Cycle is Coming

5 Signs Your Cycle is Coming

Yes, everyone is different, but these signs are almost always universal. It’s funny how when we start syncing together, we develop different signs we never had before. Like when I get to sign number five on this list— thank you, you know who.

  1. Period Poops

The first and most annoying sign is period poops. We all get them; no need to deny it. They creep in, but they move FAST. One minute you’re waking up to a brand new day and the next minute you’re high-tailing it to the nearest bathroom. Hopefully it’s the one in the comfort of your own home. Period poops are a surefire sign to letting your body know it’s time to make room for a blood bath.

Is pooping that much on your period normal? Yup! Fatty acids known as prostaglandins begin to relax the smooth muscle tissues inside your uterus to help it shed its lining. [source: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/] It’s all just a cycle of life within your uterus. Those glandins are making room for the next batch of eggs. In some cases, this can also lead to constipation, but that could be more related to your diet. We’ll touch on that in another blog post.

  1. Ghost Cramping

The second sign is light cramping. Or I call it ghost cramping. It’s barely there, but present enough to know something is happening. I typically get these cramps two days before my cycle even begins. Which sometimes can be a waste of feminine products if you’re anticipating blood, but the blood doesn’t come right away. Also, why are these products soooo expensive? Half of them are way too toxic for our bodies anyway. I’ve recently switched over to more organic options, like Rael Pads which are hella girlboss owned. If we have to bleed every single month, these products should be free.

  1. Sore Boobs

Third sign is sore boobs. Thee worst. Not sure of the point of this, but I assume because we’re not producing a baby and therefore not producing milk and therefore upsetting the bodily rhythm that was given to us without our consent. Whew. So yeah, we get sore boobs and there’s not much you can do except massage them or have your partner do it. It’ll help relieve some of that built up pressure.

  1. Attitude

And hopefully alleviate the fourth sign— the attitude. Our hormones take over, it’s not our fault. Yes, we get a little —and I HATE to use this word—emotional. It’s not because we want to be, but because our body’s chemical messengers are a little out of whack and otherwise occupied to worry about others feelings and needs. 🙂

So think to yourself the next time you’re ready to cuss out someone that cut you off on the road or bite the head of your partner for breathing, is my cycle coming? Let’s hope for their sake it is.

  1. Right Leg Pain

Now this one is an extra sign. Number five is the infamous right leg pain. Do you get it? I never knew what this was until I was about 24/25 and met a new friend. This is where cycle syncing comes into play. This new friend gave me her right leg pain, which leaves me limping for at least two days. The day before my cycle and the day of my cycle. It’s not an intense pain or anything just annoying, but the one good thing is that I know exactly when it’s coming when I get it. If you don’t get the right leg pain, you may experience lower back pain aka the sciatica or shoulder/neck tension.

Our bodies go through so much in such a short span of time, it’s no wonder our hormones are all over the place. Give us women some grace! We’re out here trying to live our best lives and unfortunately we really only get to be ourselves one week out of every month. That’s only 12 out of 52 weeks in the year. That’s wild to me. And that’s not even considering the millions of women that are on some form of birth control.

I’d like to believe we have a pretty good handle on knowing our bodies. It’s nice to know there’s others out there who are experiencing similar challenges. I hope to shed light on the hard topics so we can tackle them together and take over the world. Because it should clearly be run by women.
